Animal Haven
(Gorgie City Farm, Edinburgh)
It's a place that's easy to miss
just by the railway bridge
reclaimed dereliction become haven
for those seeking rest
in the hectic city.
In the wildlife garden
frogpond and bird-filled trees
are guarded
by a misplaced Bengal Owl.
In the farmyard
muddy piglets dance
fluffy faced sheep graze
and an old angora goat limps by.
Up the hill
more goats leap on wooden planks
overlooking the playground
and Driftwood the rabbit found
on a beach.
Staff, volunteers and visitors bustle
between cafe, allotments and the stable
that a vagabond cat
has made home.
